Curious. I grew up doing Saxon from I think 4th or 5th grade on. I am partial. I loved it. For my kids since they weren’t at that level, I did teaching textbooks. I have a son that seems to struggle now with carrying and borrowing, and one that seems to get confused if math is on paper instead of a screen. I was thinking about putting them into Saxon now, but, I hesitate because in previous videos you praise teaching textbooks as an evaluator in Florida, that the kids doing TT preform better than others on other curriculums. Did that include Saxon?

I’m torn between IEW, AAR/AAS, and sort of SWR and Logic of English. Those 4 seem to be the standouts in my research.

Yes, please do a comparison for IEW and AAR! My oldest is going into third grade and I have not found a spelling curriculum I love but was considering AAR but I am so intrigued by IEW just intimidated to start.

These are the days

The Good and the Beautiful has a lot of controversy because a certain blogger/you tuber slammed them after she decided to create her own curriculum. Before that, said blogger praised them for years. Said blogger claims to be Christian but doesn't act in a Christ like manner when slamming another company. I don't know why Christians don't mind using secular curriculum such as Logic of English or All About Reading, but they sway away from TGTB because of controversy. We have no idea what these secular curriculum companies believe. They don't put their worldview out there but we are trusting their curriculum and slamming, or simply not using someone else's, and making video's telling the world why, simply because they come from a different religious background. How is it different using curriculum that may have been created by someone who is atheist? Because we don't know that they are atheist?

I know this video is old. Does the student book still come with that blue page? We have been wanting to try out IEW but my son has his heart set on the theme based writing. I am looking at ordering Wonders of Science and Fix it Grammar 1 so I am trying to figure out if I should buy the teacher guides as well 😅

These are great tips. Living in Florida like we do, makes it so much easier to do this, because we don't have to have a bunch of stuff like other states do.

[Classicist here: Greek primarily, and Latin] So, why Greek history? Greek Philosophy? Ditto Latin stuff. Well…because it was so widely influential. The roots of democracy and the transitor lay in Athens. But Hebrew thought is also extremely important. For at least a millennium, those educated in Greek and Latin often knew Hebrew. The US Founding Fathers were educated and many knew to some degree Greek, Latin, French, German and other languages, sometime to fluency. So too some later presidents (the Roosevelt twins). But one could ask: why not Japanese history and philosophy? Chinese? Korean? Persian? Well, choices. A good case can be made for western thought. solely because, despite many flaws, western thought has created the economies and political system, literature, which have been most successful.

I have done some so happy to learn and for me it was hard to figure out what to do as in what order etc. My son has down syndrome and just turned 8. I randomly tried hooked on phonics for him and he did SO well with it this year. He is reading (with a bit of help) the little books they send us and doing well with the workbooks they also send us. He loves the app too! They also give you access to the math and spelling which are both really good too! The worksheets aren't always a perfect fit for my son but I like to do some work in a book not just all the app so we do all of the ones that I think are a good fit for him. Even if you don't want it for your main curriculum I think it would be an excellent supplement.

The channel Rolling with the Rouses just put up a video about Snap Words for Dyslexia. I think she has multiple kids with dyslexia. She also has a lot of book recommendations in her channel.

Could not agree more. I turned on Mrs Brown to check her out for the first time this week. My kids were instantly enthralled. She is charming. But we won’t be inviting new age practices into our home. Too bad. Those practices don’t add anything to the learning.

Have you ever looked into autism oasis? It is made for kids who use an aac device. It is a full curriculum and offers alot of support from the creator.

Did Natalie make any progress with So Happy to Learn over the past few years?

We're currently using Foundational Phonics. Once that's done we will combine Horizons, Christian Liberty Press Phonics, and Rod and Staff reading and English. My son likes the Biblical content in Rod and Staff, but there are a lot of sight words, so we had to set it aside for awhile. CLP K is nice, but we had to stop and practice short vowel sounds another way for awhile. We have used some of your TpT resources and enjoyed them. Thanks for sharing them. We prefer Christian materials too. My son is reading, but he was guessing too much, so we switched to Diane Craft Right Brain readers with no pictures. They have a nice, slow pace. Christian Light readers are my favorite otherwise. For Foundational Phonics I cover the pictures with a big sticky note until he reads the page. Then I remove it and he looks at it as a confirmation instead of using it to guess.

My grandson is FASD,ASD,and ADHD. He also has some signifigant visual tracking issues and primitive reflexes. He is 9.2 years old. DR Karen Holinga is a gem .She spent a lot of time on the phone with me helping me understand her program. She is a Christian and homeschooled her own children. Happy Cheetah is like 10 steps up of her spelling u see. l was still apprehensive going in bc after buying every reading program l had lost hope.MY grandson is reading. He likes all the things in the program that l thought he would never be able to do or like. DR Holinga and her husband went out of their way to get my Happy Cheetah kit to Canada! Highly recommend this program! So nice to know the author will speak to you bc she just wants every child to have a chance to learn to read! Happy to answer any questions you may have. I agree with everything you said! I so badly wanted to love that curriculum but I felt like it was so hard to pick and choose what we needed and the website made that kinda difficult. I can’t wait to go see what you’ve created! 💙💛

We tried Math U See for my high schooler and we tried for two weeks and she was lost and not learning at all. She’s right that you have to start from the beginning to end end with Math U See. My child hated the videos and the curriculum was impossible. 400.00 wasted…. Save yourself.

My kids love math u see! Much to my chagrin 😂 I don’t even remember why I even went with it originally because it is the opposite of what I love (color, variety, etc). But my kids love it. But I really want to switch to Apologia math this coming year.

These new words these kids are using are crazy. When I was a kid, cap,or capping ment that you were roasting somebody making jokes about them. Like, " man that dude was capping on you at the park."

I've always heard that apologia is advanced? I homeschool my grandson who is not advanced ..he was in special ed with an IEP team in charter school so he is pretty far behind his "grade level" I have tried almost every math curriculum out there ....help ....a
